The Aloha Shirt was created by a Waikiki merchant in the early 1930’s, but hit their popularity when they arrived on the mainland with the servicemen after World War II. Catalogued in about a half dozen collectable books, these patterns are anything from tapa prints to florals to scenics to conversationals. And who can forget the memorable Aloha shirts worn by Elvis Presley in “Blue Hawaii” or Montgomery Cliff in “From Here to Eternity.”
